Bulldog Bearings Review
Bulldog Bearings review by Jamie Reid
Bulldog bearing are made by the guys at Quality Bearings in the UK
Model tested, ABEC 9 Bulldogs
Ok, so there’s been a lot of discussion between Powerbladers and Freeskaters about what makes the best bearing for our needs.
We all seem to want the same things:
High speed, strong, long lasting, and a cheap price.
Well my friends, these might be just the answer.
The Bulldog bearings are really fast, even when compared to my trusty Bones Swiss Ceramics. They are made to a much higher industrial standard than most skating specific brands, meaning they will be less likely to get flat spots on the inner balls. This means they will not only last longer, but also feel better for longer too.
Because the makers of these bearings also make them for other industries, they pack them sealed and pre lubricated so that they can be stored for a long time without drying out. Because of this they take a little longer to wear in and speed up, so don’t panic and think you’ve bought dodgy bearings, they just need a bit of abuse right out the box and you’ll have some nice fast bearings.
The shields are removable on both sides, so if you do happen to get them soaking wet, or full of dust and dirt, you can easily remove them to give them a good clean and re-lube.
I tend to give bearing a little more abuse than most. Not because of any extra skating talent, but because I’m quite heavy at over 200lbs / 90kg. This means that when I jump or land gaps, I land HARD!
So far so good, these have stood up to the test really well and I am actually favouring these over my Bones Swiss for the trip to Barcelona.
Now the REALLY good bit, the price!
The ABEC 9’s are less than £20 / €26 + postage costs. FOR ALL 16 !
Compare that price to some better known brands, and you will have to pay at least twice as much to get bearing that even come close.
Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend these bearings.
